Dino-Thanksgiving Has Me Excited For the Holiday Season

Ever since I had kids, the holiday season means so much more to me now. I love trying to create traditions that my kids will look back on and either cherish or will laugh and say “remember that time mom thought she could come down the chimney dressed as Santa and got stuck!?” With Halloween right around the corner, I have already started buying Christmas presents so as to not have to go to the store or order off Amazon when everyone else is doing the same in our first pandemic Christmas. Seeing a book about Thanksgiving sounds great to me right now!

I received an ARC by the pubishers via NetGalley!

My son loves dinosaurs. He was first introduced to them from Pink Fong, when we were watching the Baby Shark videos on repeat. The dinosaur songs really held his attention, and he now walks around saying names like ankylosaurus and iguanodon as only a 2-year old can.

When I told him I had a story to read to him, he quickly jumped in my lap, asking if it was his latest Blippi book. Ummm no. I pulled up Dino-Thanksgiving and he went crazy! He started shouting “Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs!”

My son’s book review (2-years old)

Mom: Hey buddy, what did you think?

Son: AGAIN! AGAIN!

Mom: So did you like it?

Son: YES! Mommy! Dinosaurs! Again!

Mom: Which dinosaur was your favorite?

Son: T-rex! (points to Compy and begins to laugh)

Mom Translation of Son’s Review

Dinosaurs are so much fun! I looked up the author and found that this is one book in a whole SERIES of Dino books! We got so excited, we immediately looked up Dino-Halloween and Dino-Dancing. When we woke up the next morning, my son immediately began to ask for me to read to him again. We have a hit on our hands here!

As a mom, I loved the story. It falls in line with a lot of our family traditions, from watching the parade (shout-out to the balloon turkey! I see you Macy’s turkey!) to having football on while everyone is either cooking or hanging out. The illustrations, by Barry Gott, are amazing. Bright, colorful and each dinosaur gives you something new to look at.

Our favorite dinosaur

And I agree with my son: Compy is hilarious!

Final Thoughts

This is a holiday book that I think the family will enjoy throughout the years. That’s one tradition I love for each holiday – pulling out the books! And now I have to go hunt down about 11 other dinosaur books for my son as a Christmas gift! (Shhhh – don’t tell him!)
