Halloween Rom-Com The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Happy Friday everyone! As we get closer and closer to Halloween, I find myself reading more and more Christmas books in preparation for the holiday season. What will you be reading this weekend?
Just in time for the spooky season to finish, I put the merry and bright books to the side and finished reading The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. It was the perfect witchy rom-com story with a mix of magic gone wrong!
New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.
Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.
That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.
Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
I fell in love with Vivi and Rhys right away, and quickly read the whole thing. In looking it up on Goodreads, it says that this will be a series, and that makes me so excited for more! This book is not scary, but does have a little bit of spice in it. My only concern was how fast the ending wrapped up – there was a LOT of build up leading towards getting rid of the curse and how it all happened, then faster than you can snap your fingers, the ending occurred (I don’t want to give away any spoilers).
The author, Erin Sterling, is the pen name for Rachel Hawkins. Rachel has written the Hex Hall series (which I have sitting on my shelves!!) and The Wife Upstairs. These are books I will need to move up on my TBR list IMMEDIATELY!
If you are looking for a cute quick rom-com that will put you in the Halloween spirit, this is the book for you!
