Canticos! Bilingual Books For the Preschool Crowd

When my kids and I are watching Nick Jr, we also see Canticos nursery rhymes. You know the ones – they are the nursery rhymes that are sung in both English and Spanish with the 3 little chicks and their friends. My son’s personal favorite is The Wheels On the Bus.

In addition to adorable music videos, there are bilingual picture books from Canticos that help kids learn both English and Spanish words. We have 2 favorites that my kids love, and they were so excited to hear that a new book will be out NEXT WEEK about feelings!

The first book my kids read as we were teaching my 3 year old the letters of the alphabet was Letters A to Z. This book walks through both the English and Spanish alphabet and gives a word that begins with each letter (example: N is for nest and de noche [night]). Coupled with the adorable pictures, and this one is a hit.

Even though the books are geared towards my preschooler, my 6 year old also benefits from learning the Spanish words, and she is learning how to sound out her words (she’s a reader now!)

This time around, we are singing about all the colors that are all around! And yes, we sang this book. After a few pages about the colors all around, we see the names of the colors in both English and Spanish.

This book helped my 3 year old learn his colors, and my 6 year old was able to get some practice reading. This counts as a double win in my book!

Feelings are a big topic in our family lately with the littles. Our 6 year old understands feelings, but is now seeing them outside of her house as she navigates school. Meanwhile, our 3 year old is learning how to express his feelings by using his words rather than just different shouts and screams.

Enter this book – this is a little bit different in that it is a lift-the-flap book, where it encourages the kids to show that they know what each feeling/emotion means. And there are quite a few emotions we went through!

Now when my son starts to yell, it’s easier for him to verbally tell me what emotion is going through him. And now he loves to also act it out just like this book showed him how to!

Feelings is out July 6th!

A huge thank you to Encantos Media Studios and Netgalley for a preview of Feelings and the Canticos books!
