Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez
It’s publication day for Abby Jimenez’s latest novel, Part of Your World! This is the fourth book in the world of Abby’s first novel, The Friend Zone, and it just keeps getting better and better! But don’t worry – each book works great as a standalone, but even better when read altogether.
After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.
While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. She’s fine with being a “mere” ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?
This book is what happens when you take one part Hallmark (small town, love interest is not only a carpenter but also the town mayor who takes care of baby goats, his friends, and and the town he loves), mix in some real world scenarios that are thankfully handled with grace and care (gaslighting, PTSD, depression, domestic violence) and the trademark Abby rom-com wit and humor and you have Part of Your World.
The chapters go back-and-forth between Alexis and Daniel’s POV. We start with their meet-cute to end all meet-cute’s, and we watch their relationship progress while Alexis struggles with secrets of her world. We also meet Daniel’s friends, Brian and Doug, who each have a serious problem they are struggling with. Each character is brought into the story seamlessly, and it all works together. There are equal parts that made me laugh and parts that made me sad, but each issue is talked about where Abby’s sensitivity readers should be given a pat on the back for a job well done.
Through it all, I found myself wishing I could move to a small town and play with baby goats. Having read Abby’s other books, (The Friend Zone, The Happy Ever After Playlist, and Life’s Too Short) I also enjoyed all of the Easter eggs found throughout the whole story! Fans of Abby will recognize who Alexis’s brother’s new relationship is!
