TBT Review – The Hunger Games

This week, in honor of The Hunger Games prequel being released, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I am throwing it back to the book that started it all, and my first re-read challenge! I am very excited for this!

Such a classic! Even seeing the cover has me excited.

Let me first set the stage – this book was released in 2008. Mockingjay (the third book) was published in 2010. I did not get around to starting the series until 2011. With that in mind, here is my TBT review:

How I ever waited so long to read this I will never know. This book was riveting and I had a hard time forcing myself to go to sleep since I couldn’t bear to put this book down. Suspense, drama, intrigue, and a touch of young love? LOVE IT! I am running for my bookcase to find book 2 ASAP!

I actually remember reading this, and it would be about 2am, and I would say “one more chapter!” and then keep reading. I could not get enough. BUT – and it’s all in capitals for a reason – I cannot remember the finer details. A lot has happened in 9 years. A lot more books have been consumed. In order to properly prepare for the prequel, I am finally doing what I have wanted to do since starting this blog!

MY FIRST RE-READ CHALLENGE!!

Whether you like it or not, time, age and motherhood changes you. My perspective on things has changed. My tolerance levels have changed. My enjoyment on reading mother/children books has changed. And I have always wanted to re-read the books I loved in my single child-free 20’s as much as I do now.

And what better book to start with than The Hunger Games trilogy! I am going to really dive in deep with each character, and see what I loved and what I didn’t. Will I still be team Gale? Will my loyalties change? The fact that I just had to Google Gale’s name shows just how much of the details are escaping me.

BRING ON THE RE-READ! I will be starting the book today, but be patient with me. As I am ramping up more ideas for the blog, still working full time, and caring for the littles, I don’t get to read as often as I would like. Back in the single days, I would have all three books done by the weekend. Today? I am hoping to have these done in the next three weeks. Especially because my prequel is coming on Tuesday!!
